Marla Shumny

(From Ulmer Funeral Home)

Marla Shumny, 58, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief battle with glioblastoma.

Born December 2, 1966, in Carthage to Don and Linda (Kube) Jones, she was a proud graduate of Carthage High School, Class of 1985, a lifelong resident of the community she loved, and a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

On July 27, 1986, she married Michael Shumny, her partner and best friend of 39 years. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at H.E. Williams for 24 years, where she was respected for her dedication and warmth. Outside of work, she was known for her incredible cooking, sharp card-playing skills, and her love of Corvettes and Table Rock Lake, where she spent her happiest days with family and friends. More than anything, she was a devoted wife, loving mom, and proud grandma. Her kindness, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Michael; two daughters, Savanna Jones of Carthage, and Morgan Simmons (Wes) of Webb City; grandchildren, Lucas Jones, Layla Jones, Lucy Jones, Sawyer Simmons, Barrett Simmons, and Cole Simmons; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Jones; and niece and nephew, Meagan Milliken (Ryan) and Kaleb Jones (Jillian).

She is preceded in death by her parents, Don Jones and Linda Smith, her step-dad Roy Smith, her brother, Marty Jones, and her son-in-law, Zach Jones.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 6 at 10:00 AM at Bykota Church in Carthage. All are welcome to join in celebrating her remarkable life.
