Carolyn Jane Ewing, 80, passed away on June 1, 2016 in Joplin, MO. Carolyn was born in Multnomah, Oregon in February 1936. She graduated from the O’Conner School of Nursing as Registered Nurse in 1958. She enlisted in the United States Air Force (Oct 58) – Nurses Corps as a Second Lieutenant. She was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in May 1960. In 1961 Carolyn was discharged –Honorably, and relocated to Campbell, CA. She began working at El Camino hospital in the Labor & Delivery unit. She worked at El Camino for 31 years when she retired. In 2000, Carolyn relocated to Urbana, Missouri.
Carolyn requested the words “Here at time of need” to be placed on her marker. These words exemplify the person she was whole heartedly. She was always there to help friends, fellow nurses, and family in any way possible.
Carolyn was a passionate nurse, devoted Christian, loving mother, and great friend to those in her circle. She loved reading, and doing crossword puzzles. She was always one to stay current on local and national policies, and was an avid basketball fan (although, she kept current on most popular sports).
Carolyn was preceded in death by her loving parents, Fredrick and Daisy Handlan. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lance & Rhonda Ewing, grandchildren Nicole White, Emma Ewing, Ashlynn Ewing, and Allison Schletzbaum, and her great grandchildren Ahyren, Brijett, Kohan, and Breydin.
Memorial service will be held June 18, 2016 @ 3pm at Pommel De Terre United Methodist Church, County Rd 291, Hermitage, MO 6566. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the church.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
