Sylvia Kathern Vickers, age 88 of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016, at the home of her son, following an illness.
Sylvia was born on October 4, 1928 in Turkey Ford, Ok., the son of the late John and Fannie (Vanderpool) Burtrum. She married Fred Vickers in 1945 in Columbus, Ks., and together they raised five children. She worked in the cafeteria for Joplin Schools, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Vickers on June 11, 2013; son, Fred Vickers, Jr.; and daughter, Carolyn Height and her husband Don. She is survived by two sons, David Vickers and wife Tina, Joplin, and Bobby Vickers and wife Wendy, Joplin; one daughter, Althea Burlison, Mt. Vernon, Mo; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 4 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. A private graveside will be held on Monday, with Reverend Charlie Burnett officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to Harmony Heights Baptist Church in care of the mortuary.
