(From Clark Funeral Home)Robert ‘Bob’ Carnes, Sr., was born May 17, 1934, in Neosho, Missouri, the son of Irl and Ella May (Gaymon) Carnes. He entered into rest on July 7, 2022, at his home in Neosho at the age of 88.
James Carnes, grandfather of Bob, came to Neosho in 1867. In 1871, he opened the wagon shop on the east side of the Neosho Square, and in 1880, he purchased a livery stable.
In 1911, Irl Carnes joined James Carnes to add automotive repair shop, and established Carnes and Son Motor Company and secured the Dodge agency in Neosho in October 1921 until the 2000’s and was one of the oldest family businesses in Neosho.
Bob graduated from Neosho High School in 1952 and worked at Teledyne and Rocketdyne as a process engineer and was a member of the Teledyne Management Club. Bob played semi-pro baseball with Baxter Springs, Kansas, ‘Whiz Kids’ and was recruited by and offered a contract by the Cleveland Indians. He played with the Neosho Angels slow pitch league for many years and also for Red Carpet.
He built and flew remote control model airplanes and was national champion of Model Airplanes Association. Bob was an avid fisherman and bowler and enjoyed Nascar and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.
On July 23, 1955, Bob, and Marjorie Faye (Daugherty) were united in marriage and she preceded him in death on May 24, 2007.
Bob is survived by four daughters, Madaline (Rick) Ketcham, Jackie (Roger) Schmidt, Robin Church, and Terri Fagan, all of Neosho; thirteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie, he is preceded in death by a son, Robert Carnes, Jr. and grandson, Jeremy DeFoor.
Graveside services are scheduled for Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 10 am at the Neosho IOOF Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.
