(From Parker Mortuary)Bruce Douglas Hansen, age 73, Joplin, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022 at Barnes Jewish in St. Louis from heart failure after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Bruce was born June 2, 1949 in Joplin, son of the late William Hansen and Eunice (Withrow) Hansen. He grew up in Joplin and graduated from Joplin High School.
He went to work for Cinch in Vinita, Oklahoma where he worked for several years before beginning his career with Schreiber Cheese in Carthage. He was a maintenance electrician with these companies.
He had a passion for fishing and would fish all year to supply fish for a fish fry and fund raiser for Wildwood Baptist Church and the Celebrate Recovery Group he led for many years. He was a deacon at the church and was an active member of Wildwood. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and was known for taking several of his friends and church members fishing with him. He had a passion for his family and was very proud of his son and grandsons. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Moorehead.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Brumback) Hanson of the home, son, Bill Hanson and Cristin Reid of Joplin, daughter, Amy Smith of Joplin; grandchildren, Eli and Wyatt Smith, Emma and Wes Peterson all of Joplin; brother, Larry Hanson; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be Saturday July 9, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Wildwood Baptist Church with Pastor Lew Poe officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at Wildwood Baptist Church for a fish fry and fund raiser for families in need.
Memorial contributions are requested to the Wildwood Baptist Church Building Fund.
