Phyllis Kost

Phyllis C. (Blood) Kost, 68, of Baxter Springs, KS passed from this life on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at her home with her husband at her side.

Phyllis was born April 23, 1951 in Webb City, Missouri to the union of Martin and Annabelle (Roland) Blood. She was the fourth child.

Phyllis worked for Badge Company in Denver, CO moving to Joplin, MO in 1978. She was a manager at Wyatt’s Cafeteria in several cities from 1978-1982. 

In 1978 she met Thomas “Larry” Kost and was united in marriage in Las Vegas in 1981. In 1982 she joined Larry driving trucks for fourteen years. She then worked for Joplin Schools as a cook. In December of 2004 she moved from Joplin, MO to Baxter Springs, KS. While living in Baxter Springs, she worked for Quapaw Schools and Downstream Casino until she was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2014.








Phyllis never met a stranger. She generously helped people all the time and made them feel like they were part of the family. She was loved by so many. She loved adventures, traveling to many places. She felt so very blessed in life, even in her dying breathe.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her father, Martin Blood. She is survived by her husband, Thomas “Larry” Kost of the home; mother, Annabelle Blood of Joplin, MO; two daughters, Crystal DeWeese of Joplin, MO, and Elise “Michelle” Bowers and husband Chuck of Joplin, MO; stepson, Larry H. Kost of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers, Leon Blood of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Valor Blood of Joplin, MO; sister, Ann Jachetta of Sedalia, Colorado; three grandchildren, Autum DeWeese, Breana DeWeese, and Destiny Downing and husband Ryen; one great grandchild, Rilynn Downing.

Visitation will take place from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, KS.
