Judy Barnes

(From Ozark Funeral Home)

Judith E. Barnes 72 of Southwest City MO, loving mother and grandmother passed away after a brief illness on January 4th 2023 in Joplin MO.

Judith was born in Syracuse, NY to Christopher Fricke Sr. and Mildred (Cornell) Fricke. She attended High School in Central Square and later attended cosmetology school in Syracuse.

She is survived by her sister Kathleen (Kathy) Shaklee and husband Russell Shaklee of Middleburg FL, her daughter Arlene Evans of Anderson, MO and her grandchildren Nicholette T. DeFreitas of Brandon, MS, David J. Evans of Central Square NY, Jacob D. Evans and Christian J. Evans of Anderson, MO. And many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews all over the country.

Judy’s parent and her seven siblings that passed before her were Jerri, Joyce, Bud, Chuck, Doug, Paulene and Beth (as we called them).

Judith married Edward E. Shultz and lived in Central Square NY for many years. They later divorced, and she met the love of her life Jeff Barnes. They lived a very happy life in Syracuse NY for many years until Jeff’s passing. After Jeff’s passing, Judith moved to Middleburg FL to be near her sister Kathy.

After eight years in Middleburg she moved to Southwest City to be near her daughter, grandchildren and other family.

As one of those nieces, I have very happy memories of being in Aunt Judy’s home from the time I was very little and even as an adult. She was a very caring and giving person with the biggest heart, who loved all of her many nieces and nephews. She was quick to laugh, and most of my memories are of her head back laughing.

The family will be holding a private “Celebration of Life” ceremony at a later date.
