Martha Brock

Martha Louise (Burr) Brock, age 66, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Mercy of Joplin.

Martha was born February 7, 1959 in Joplin, daughter of the late James “Jim” V. Burr and Frances Jean (Gilbreth) Burr. She grew up in Joplin, and graduated from Parkwood High School in 1977. She then received her Licensed Practical Nurse diploma from Franklin Tech School of Joplin. She later earned her diploma as a registered nurse from The Deaconess School in Kansas City. She has worked for several hospitals in the area including St. John’s of Joplin, Freeman West of Joplin, and Mercy of Springfield.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing and doing crafts over the years. She was also known for her care and spoiling of her dogs. She will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell O. Brock, who passed away on January 1, 2023. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Shaun Burr.

Survivors include her son, James Russell Brock of Joplin; brother, Richard Burr and wife Della of Conway, AR; sisters, Kathy Blood of Joplin, and Jimmie Lou Bryant and husband Fred of Inverness, FL; five nieces and nephews, and six great-nieces and nephews, and many much-loved friends and family members.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary with a memorial mass to be held at a later date.
