Hiram John Hicks, Jr., age 73, of Joplin, passed away on Wednesday September 27, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
Hiram was born on December 30, 1943 in Webb City, Mo., the son of the late Hiram John
Hicks, Sr. and Mary Francis (Wilson) Hicks. He has been a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Carterville High School in 1961. He then attended PSU. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Viet Nam War. He then was a member of the Missouri National Guard.
Hiram married Carol McClary on August 23, 1974 in Miami, Ok. Together they raised two children. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He worked as a machinist for ICI and Vickers, and he retired from Eagle Picher. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Webb City Football, running, and spending time with his grandchildren, attending their games and activities.
He is survived by his wife Carol Hicks, Joplin, Mo.; one son, Michael Hicks and his wife Heather, Carthage, Mo.; one daughter, Melanie D’Anna and husband Valter, Springfield, Mo.; two brothers Don Hicks, and wife Theresa, Webb City, Mo., and Phillip Hicks, Oronogo, Mo.; two sisters, Carlin Crane, Columbus, Ks., and Nancy Jansen and husband Eric, Webb City, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Giovanni D’ Anna, Sierra Hicks and Maya Hicks.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday September 29, 2017 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-7 p.m. at the Mortuary. Burial will follow the service at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family has requested that contributions be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church building fund or to the Gideon’s in care of the Mortuary.
