James Leedy

James Allen Leedy, 71, passed away 4:00 a.m. Monday September 4, 2017,peacefully in his home after a long illness.

He leaves his wife Pamela of 51 years, a daughter Dianna S Leedy Crandall (Joplin), 2 sons, James D Leedy and his wife Kendra (Joplin), David A Leedy and his wife Evelyn (Diamond), a sister Janice Orahood (Joplin), 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a sister Joyce Crawford and a brother Jack Leedy.

James was born March 8, 1946 and raised in the Carthage area by his parents Claude and Louise Leedy who also preceded him in death. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1964. He served in Vietnam where he received a bronze star, Presidential Unit Citation and a purple heart during his service from 1965 to 1967. He attended college in the early 70s where he studied accounting, business, and basic 

He worked for Nabisco in Carthage for 25 years and later worked for Safeway Bakery and Jasper Popcorn before retiring in 2003. He was also heavily involved with the VFW in his earlier years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed listening to music, telling jokes and funny stories, playing cards, and watching western movies. He was very generous and friendly to everyone he met.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday September 8, 2017 at Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage Thursday September 7, 2017 at 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Online condolences can be sent at www.ulmerfh.com
