(From Parker Mortuary)Mrs. Virginia Overman Leffen, 91, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday, May 2, 2021, in the comfort of her home.
Virginia entered this life on October 17, 1929, in Hallowell, Kansas, one of seven children born to the union of the late Harry and Christina (Kirk) Beecham, and was raised on the family farm.
At age 17, Virginia married Don Hall and together they had three children, Kristy, Monty, and Scotty.
Following Don’s passing in 1959, she and the kids relocated to Columbus, KS. While there, Virginia worked in banking until meeting a man named Herb Overman. They were blessed with a son, Rocky, and she and Herb enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage before his passing.
With the encouragement of some close friends, Virginia was introduced to Bill Leffen, enjoying each other's companionship and families. Their friendship blossomed into 15 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2016. Virginia was a talented interior designer throughout her life. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Twin Hills Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Don Hall, Alfred “Herb” Overman and William “Bill” Leffen; a daughter, Kristy Overman; two brothers, Harry “Bud” Beecham, Jr. and John Holly Beecham; and two sisters, Lois Westervelt and Lorine Groves.
Virginia is survived by her three sons, Monty Overman and wife, Jill, of Columbus, Kansas, Scotty Overman and wife, Lisa, of Girard, Kansas and Rocky Overman and wife, Pam, of Columbus, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Monica Avent, Zack Overman, Morgan Ponsetti, Macaji Overman, Libby McFarland, Sam Overman, Addi Jo Franklin, Maddy Foster, Kate Bole, Kip Overman, and Diggs Overman; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Haroldean “Sissy” Massengill of Napa Valley, California and Sue Powell of Pittsburg, Kansas; as well as a host of other family and friends.
A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parker Mortuary with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday afternoon, May 7, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Joplin with Father J. Friedel officiating.

A private family burial will take place at Park Cemetery in Columbus, Kansas with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Memorials are being directed to either, Columbus Community Foundation or the Bill and Virginia Leffen Center for Autism.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary in Joplin.
