Norma Powell

Norma Faith Medlin Powell, age 79, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on June 13th, 2026 at 12:42 pm.

Norma was born June 13th, 1947, in Patterson, California. She was the daughter of the late Logan Preston Medlin and Hazel Divine Medlin. Norma married James Delbert Powell on December 18, 1971. They have two sons: Nathan J. Powell and wife Doris (Dee) Harper Powell, and their son Jack Harper Powell of Joplin, MO; Timothy J. Powell and wife Amanda (Mandy) Wyatt Powell, and their daughter and son, Jolie K. Powell and Alexander W. Powell of Joplin, MO.








Norma has seven surviving brothers and sisters: Everett R. Medlin and wife Kay Crow Medlin of Wyandotte, OK; Virginia Medlin Whitesell of Duquesne, MO; Eulah J. Medlin Buchanan and husband Frank E. Buchanan of Joplin, MO; Annetta J. Medlin of Joplin, MO; Benjamin L. Medlin and wife Rebecca West Medlin of Mt. Vernon, MO; Geneva (Ruth) Medlin Overman of Carthage, MO; and Michael N. Medlin and wife Nancy Paz Medlin of Webb City, MO; Twenty-two surviving nieces and nephews as well as several great and great great-nieces and nephews.

Norma graduated from the former Joplin Senior High School in 1965 and from Missouri Southern State University in 1967. She worked as a secretary in the library at Joplin Senior High School, from which she retired.

She attended Liberty Bible Mission until the year 2000. Norma has been attending Joplin Peace in Joplin, MO for the past twenty-six years, where she was active until recently. She loved being in church, singing, teaching Sunday School, and being the church librarian.








Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband and children, her grandchildren, and her brother’s and sister’s families. Norma loved to cook and spend time in her garden. Many hours were spent scrapbooking and card-making with friends. Her special recreation was reading. She especially loved reading inspirational Christian fiction.

Norma was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Joplin Peace Church in Joplin, MO. Burial to follow at Carterville Cemetery in Carterville, MO. The family invites friends out for a time of visitation prior to the service at 1:00 p.m.
