(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)David L. Speed, age 64 of Grove, OK, passed away on Thursday December 31, 2020, at Freeman Hospital, following an illness.
David was born on February 19, 1956 in Clinton, OK, the son of C. Leon and Lahoma (Shelton) Speed. He served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He married Christy Petree on April 3, 1973. Together they were blessed with three children.
David worked as a truck driver for Sitton Motor Lines and for the City of Joplin as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of the Assemblies of God. He was also a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating, spending time with friends and family.
David is survived by his wife Christy Speed, Grove, OK; a daughter, Christina Senerchia and husband Steve, Joplin, MO; a son David Wayne Speed and wife Chasta, Seneca, MO.; his sister, Anita Price, Huntsville, AR.; and nine grandchildren; Brandon Speed, Brittany Weber, Zack Hendricks, Dustin Cross, Shane Hendricks, Catelynn Cross, Kelsey Wright, Dominic Senerchia and Ryan Senerchia.
He was preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” Speed, his mother, Lahoma Curnutte, and father, Leon Speed.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family visitation will be 6-7:00 p.m. Monday at Mason-Woodard Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
