(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)Mary Louellen Gilstrap-Anderson, age 87 of Joplin, Missouri, passed peacefully into her Heavenly Father’s arms on Monday, January 6, 2025. Mary was born June 1, 1937 in Joplin to the late Alvie and Frankie Mae (Mitchell) Cooper.
Mary was a lifelong resident of the Joplin area and worked as a housekeeper for many doctors throughout the years. She was of the Pentecostal faith and in her early years attended Lone Elm Pentecostal Church. Mary enjoyed reading and shopping on a regular basis. Her family was of great importance and did all she could do to take care of their every need.
She married Walter W. Gilstrap and together had five children. Walter passed away in 1994 and later married Howard Anderson, he passed away in 2006. Additionally, Mary is preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Cooper; sister, Wanda Cornett and a granddaughter, Carmen Caylor Oxford.
Those left to mourn her loss include her sons, Darrell Gilstrap and Lionel Gilstrap, both of Joplin; daughters, Pamela Zimmerman (Robert) of Independence, Kansas, Debra Judy (Randy) of Joplin and Virginia Caldwell (Glen “Poochie) of Joplin; sisters, Alva Overman (Alvin) and Levena Jones (Gary), both of Joplin; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services are planned for Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri. Mary will be taken for cremation following the service and burial of ashes will take place at a later date at Osborne Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin.
