Wilma Sloan

Wilma L Sloan, age 97, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday August 2, 2025 at Cox Barton County Hospital, Lamar, MO.

Wilma was born May 1, 1928 in Girard, KS to Jesse and Martha (Swearingin) Clutter.

She was a graduate of Girard (KS) High School in 1946 and began teaching at the age of 18.







She married Leonard Sloan of Farlington, KS , April 28,1948 in Girard. They moved to Maple Grove Community near Carthage in 1957 where they then spent the next 62 years on a farm north of Carthage. He preceded her in death May 10, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Marvin Clutter.

They enjoyed traveling camping, but most of all, dancing. Their home was always open to friends and family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage, and the Elks Lodge 501. She truly walked by faith with her Lord. She worked for 55 years as an Avon Representative winning many awards.

Two sons were born to this union. Loyd Sloan (Theresa) and Boyd Sloan (Kara) of Carthage; one granddaughter Kali Schooling (Heath) and one great-grandson, Connor of Carthage.








The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage, MO.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Girard (KS) Cemetery. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS
