Joyce Marilyn Harrington, age 87, of Joplin, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at National Health Care in Joplin following an extended illness.
Joyce was born January 10, 1929 in Picher, Oklahoma to the late Rolla E. Wommack and Zoe E. Passley Wommack. Joyce graduated with the Joplin High School class of 1947 and then after raising her family, she graduated from Missouri Southern State College in 1975. She worked taking care of her family as a homemaker. Joyce was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Joplin where she was a Sunday School Teacher and past Director of the children's department and VBS. Joyce was dedicated to missions. Early in life, Joyce also worked in elections, registering voters from her home.
On August 8, 1949, Joyce married Herman A. Harrington. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2015.
Joyce is survived by a son, Douglas Harrington and wife, Betty, of Adrian, Michigan; grandchildren, Jeanne, Brent, Nicholas, James, Jonathan, Benjamin, Scott and Chase; six great grandchildren; sons- in-law, Greg Holz and Ron Robson, both of Joplin; plus many extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by daughters, Constance Robson and Jeanne Holz ; an infant son, Brent Lee; and her sister, Lailyn Wommack.
Funeral services are planned for Saturday, November 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary with burial to follow at Ozark Memorial Park, Joplin. Family will receive friends Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mission's Fund of Fellowship Baptist Church in care of Parker Mortuary.
