Daniel Floyd Speas, age 58, of Webb City, Missouri, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dan was born on August 29, 1958 to James (Jim) and Joanne (Garrington) Speas in Marshalltown, Iowa and was raised on the family farm east of Union, Iowa. He graduated from Union-Whitten High School in 1976. Dan furthered his education at Marshalltown Community College where he played baseball, and then onto Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa graduating with a BS in Agronomy in 1980. Dan started his career back on the family farm selling Pioneer Seed with his father. Dan finished his 36 year agricultural career as a Regional Sales Manager with Producers Hybrids.
Dan married the love of his life, Mary (Strauss) Speas on August 2, 1986, in Eldora, Iowa. Together they raised three children. Dan was passionate about many sports. He played softball up until his time of death. Dan coached several of his children's little league teams over the years. He also enjoyed gardening, hiking, traveling, playing tennis, lifting weights, and watching NFL and MLB. Dan was an avid fisherman. Dan had a great love of American history and politics. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and his four grandchildren, Ever, Zoey, Aidan and Olivia.
Dan will be greatly missed by his father Jim of Union, IA; wife of 30 years, Mary of the home; three children, Toby (and Kristen) Speas of Gilbert, AZ, Tyler (and Justina) Speas of Gold Canyon, AZ, Gabbi (and Matt) Schmidt of Webb City, MO; four grandchildren; six siblings, Richard (and Karma) Speas of Thief River Falls, MN, Susan (and Keith) Jones of Chanhassen, MN, Brian (and Deb) Speas of O'Fallon, MO, Annette (and Jeff) Rullman of Urbandale, IA, Jamie Speas of Union, IA; and many nieces and nephews that were very special to him. Dan will also be missed by his many close friends whom he loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church of Oronogo in Oronogo, Missouri. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in Joplin, Missouri. Interment will be at Hauser Cemetery in rural Union, Iowa at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Northern Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, Norfolk, NE, where Dan served as a Deacon, or to your personal Church of choice.
