She attended college in Springfield, Missouri and soon after met William Wesley Yocum. They were married on October 16, 1955. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2013. She was a long time active member of First Presbyterian Church of Joplin, where she served in several different ministries.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Olivia Grace Key.

Yocum (Margaret) and Robert Yocum, both of Joplin; daughter Rebecca Unland (William) of Leawood, KS; grandchildren Philip Yocum (Amy) of Joplin, Kelly Yocum Key (Brian) of Kansas City, Missouri, Malarie Yocum McFerran (Allen) of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Cassidy Unland of Leawood, KS; great grandchildren Gabrielle Suzanne Key, Emerson Yocum McFerran, Amelia Joyce Key, Margaret Jane McFerran and Hayes Philip McFerran; brother David Jones (Margaret) of Ocala, FL; sister Dorothy Werfel of Orlando, FL; several nieces and nephews and many life long friends.

The most important thing in Phyllis’s life was family and every holiday found her gathering them together. Many years ago one of her long time friends said it this way: “Phyllis is rich in family.”

Due to concerns with the current Covid situation, the family is at this time only having a graveside service on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:30 am at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Brian Key officiating.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church designated to Presbyterian Women’s Ministries.
