Howard Champlin

Howard Lewis Champlin, a courageous, selfless, and gentle soul, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023, in Joplin, MO. Born on September 4, 1959, in San Jose, CA, to the late Robert and Marjorie (Cannon) Champlin. Howard was a man of great strength and character, who touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity.

Howard was a devoted husband to his wife, Susan Sears Champlin whom he married on June 15, 1990 in Joplin. He was a beloved brother to Henrietta Tompkins of Bend, OR, Roberta (Ron) Anderson of San Angelo, TX, and Dorothy (Richard) Suberg of San Antonio, TX. He was also a cherished uncle to several nieces and nephews. His family was his pride and joy, and he was a pillar of strength and support to them all.








Howard was a man of service, having served in both the Army and the Marines. His dedication to his country was evident in his commitment to these roles. After his military service, Howard worked as a welder for Cardinal Scales in Webb City, MO. His work ethic and dedication were admired by all who knew him.

Howard had a zest for life and a love for adventure. He enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. His travels brought him great joy and provided him with many wonderful memories. Howard also had a passion for square dancing. He was an active member of the Western Twirlers Square Dance Club, where he was known for his lively spirit and infectious enthusiasm.

A man of faith, Howard was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Joplin. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he was a source of inspiration to those around him.

Other than his parents, Howard was preceded in death by a baby brother.








Funeral arrangements are planned for Monday, October 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. up to service time. Burial to take place at Osborne Memorial Park in Joplin directly following the service. In leu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Martin Lutheran School of Joplin or Solace House of The Ozarks, both in care of the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
