Steve Sims

(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)

Steve Sims, 68, of Carthage died October 22, 2023, at home surrounded by family and friends.

Steve was born on Monday, March 14, 1955, at McCune Brooks Hospital in Carthage to Charley and Helen Smart Sims. His parents divorced when he was 5 years old, and he was thereafter raised by Charley and Gail Sims. He grew up on a farm where he raised cattle. He was a 1973 graduate of Carthage High School.

Steve married Alice Marie Beason on October 31, 1997, in Carthage. Steve and Alice are the parents of Dorothy Sims (Zakarey Coffman) of Neosho and Ryan Sims (Kasandra Rodriguez) of Carl Junction.

Steve was a cattleman and an automobile mechanic. He owned and operated Steve’s Garage south of Carthage for many years until his health failed. He was honest in all things and provided quality workmanship on every project. Steve had his cows until 1 year ago when his health failed.

Steve was preceded in death by his father Charley Sims in 2007, his mother Helen Poindexter in 1976, his sister Linda Lawrence in 2008 and his sister Wilma Faye (Dwight) Pyles in 2022. He is survived by his wife Alice of the home, his children, mother Gail Scribner of Carthage and sister Pat (Perry) Golden of Carthage, granddaughters Geneva Marie Coffman and Rosalee Amalia Sims and numerous extended family members.

Steve was a kind and generous man, beloved by all who knew him. He was a strong Christian advocate who loved his Lord and Savior above all others and above all things, and with whom he is now residing in heaven. He enjoyed a very close and personal friendship with Jesus, who was very fond of him. The world is a better place because of Steve’s life and, therefore, he will be missed by all, even those that he never met. God knew his abundant heart and his great suffering, and has generously rewarded him for his good, tireless and faithful service.

Steve died from cancer and left for his final message a word to all who have or will have cancer in the future: “Don’t give up. Keep fighting. Keep your eye on God and He, not you, will decide when your fight should end.”
