(From Parker Mortuary)James “Bud” Eugene Roland, 76, of Joplin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025. He was surrounded by his loved ones.
Bud was born March 1, 1949 in Joplin, a son of the late James Andrew Fleming and Betty Lou (Pippen) Roland. He was a lifelong resident of Joplin, where he met his wife. Some of his greatest joy came from their four daughters.
Bud worked as a residential and commercial roofer for more than 50 years, and was the owner of Cedar’s Roofing. He retired in 2023, though he continued to be active and outside as much as possible. He attended 2nd Assembly of God Church.
Bud was known for his great sense of humor, often telling hilarious jokes and stories to just about anyone. His infectious laughter will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
He was an excellent horseman, known for training many horses over the years. He had several palominos and paint horses, which he would take on long trail rides and showcase in parades. Bud loved being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He shared all of these hobbies with his family.
Bud is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rhonda (Henson) Roland; his four daughters Gina Cook of Miami, OK; Dena Booker (husband Cole) of Alba, MO; Shana Kersey (husband Dennis) of Joplin; and Lindsay Page (husband Sam) of Round Rock, TX.

He also had 11 grandchildren: Nicole, Faith, Kacey, Gracie, Daisy, Oliver, Ethan, James, Luke, Eva Jane, and Charles; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister Penny Turley of Carterville, MO; a brother Wallace Burkhart also of Joplin; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by sisters Laura Sooter and Bertha Sturgis; and brothers Ed Roland, Winnie Burkhart, and Larry Burkhart.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The family will receive friends at 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
