(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Richard D. Chaney, age 89, of Joplin, MO passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at home surrounded by family.
Richard was born on November 25th , 1935 in Abilene, TX to the late James Harold and Myrtle Esther Chaney.
He was raised in Merkel, TX, where he played quarterback, wide receiver and marching band (often in the same game).
After high school, he moved to Dallas, where he began a long career in business management and met, then married the love of his life, Darlene (Brewer) on June 15, 1957 in Dallas, TX. They raised five children while moving around Texas and settled in Joplin, MO in 1990.
Darlene precedes him in death, along with his parents Harold & Esther Chaney, one daughter, Joy McMillan, and one granddaughter, Amy McMillan.
Survivors include four children, Michael Chaney, Christopher Chaney, Donna Chaney, Lisa Chaney, 17 grandchildren and a large & growing legion of great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, April 30 with a visitation held prior to the service beginning at 12:00pm at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, 3701 E 7th St., Joplin, MO 64801. The burial will be held at Mt. Hope cemetery directly following the service.
