David Wheeler

(From Parker Mortuary)

In the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred thirty-nine, on the twenty-first day of August, there came into this world a soul named David Wheeler. Born in the fair city of Des Moines, Iowa, he embarked upon life's stage and played many a part with vigor and grace until his final curtain call on the twenty-third of October, in the year two thousand and twenty-five, in the tranquil town of Columbus, Kansas.

David was a man of mirth and merriment, whose laughter and wit were as a balm to the spirits of those he encountered. In the bosom of his cherished family, he was the beloved husband to his wife, Jo Wheeler, the proud father to his son, Christopher Wheeler, and his wife Nerissa of Webb City, Missouri, and to his daughter, Tiffany Bristow of Columbus, Kansas. His sister, Diana Veach of Des Moines, Iowa, along with thirteen grandchildren and a dozen great-grandchildren, each a twinkling light in the constellation of his life.

Upon the completion of his studies, David donned the uniform of the United States Air Force, serving his nation with honor and distinction. In the fullness of time, he returned to Missouri and lent his talents to Cardinal Scale Manufacturing, from whence he retired, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and comradeship.

David's life was rich in interests; he was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of the earth and sky. With club in hand, he would traverse the greensward, chasing the dimpled orb across the fairways with the sun as his companion. In the quietude of nature, he would hunt and fish, finding solace in the whisper of the woods and the murmur of the streams. Upon his trusty steed of steel and chrome, he rode the highways and byways, the wind his minstrel as he journeyed forth. And when the twilight gathered, he would pluck the strings of his bass, harmonizing with his comrades in their band, The Geriatrics.

David Wheeler was a man of many facets, a tapestry woven with threads of interest and humor. His presence was as a pageant, and his absence now leaves a void where once his spirit did shine so brightly.

Let us not mourn that such a man is no longer with us, but rather rejoice that we were graced with his presence. His story remains an inspiration to all who knew him. Thy memory shall be as lasting as the marble of the ancients, and thy legacy as enduring as the stars that light the heavens above.

The visitation for Mr. David Wheeler will take place at Parker Mortuary on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 1 p.m. till 3 p.m. where friend and family are invited to share in stories and fellowship.
