(From Ulmer Funeral Home)Bobby Gene Compton, 97, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Oak Pointe Assisted Living. Bobby was born on April 24, 1929, in Miller, Missouri, to the late Walter and Edna Compton. Bobby graduated from Golden City High School with the class of 1947. He was a farmer and worked for Top Notch Farms.
As a member of Church of the Nazarene in Carthage, Bobby served as a board member, participated in many mission trips, and was the Superintendent of Sunday School. He was a great supporter of Gideons International Bible Group as well. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Bobby was a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He lived out his faith and shared the hope of Christ to whoever he met.
Bobby was joined in marriage to Norma Jean Rose on June 21, 1951, at the Church of the Nazarene in Carthage; she survives and, in June, they celebrated 75 years of marriage.
Bobby is survived by two sons, Jerry Compton (Pam) of Joplin, and Jeff Compton (Tabby) of Carthage; three daughters, Janice Ringhiser (Dave) of Dayton, Ohio, JoAnn Rankin (Ken) of Washington, Missouri, and Judy Caves (Steve) of Oskaloosa, Iowa. He left a beautiful Christ centered legacy for an extended family of 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edna Compton, and one sister, Dorthy Reese.
The celebration of life service for Bobby will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Church of the Nazarene in Carthage. The family will receive visitors from 9:30 AM until service time at 11:00 AM at the church. The interment will be at Fasken Cemetery following the service.
