Charlene Wilma Garvin (Smith) 75 of Lamar, Mo passed away at Good Shepherd Nursing Home Wednesday, October 26th.
She was born October 22, 1941 in Hammond, Indiana to Charles William Smith and Rosemarie Hartman Smith. She was the oldest of six children and left school in the 8th grade to help support the family. She married and was preceded in death by her husband Michael Burke Sr.
She married John Garvin in Indiana. Charlene and John moved to Missouri over 20 years ago, she was previously employed at Sears & Roebuck as a salesclerk, Casey's General Store in Golden City and then as a housewife. She was a Soldier in the Salvation Army and a Minister in the Women's League, ministering and bringing joy and sharing her faith to many and guiding her family. She never missed Sunday services, not even after becoming sick and at the nursing home.
She is survived by her husband John, of the home, daughter Rose M. Burke, Lamar, MO, son Michael Burke, Jr, Carthage, MO, 5 grandchildren; Kristin, Shlya, Justin, Nicholas and Nathon, 10 great-grandchildren, one sister Kathrine, Hammond, Indiana. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, a husband, sister Kathleyn, and 3 brothers; Robert, Michael and Charles Smith .
