Jack Donald Day, age 81, Webb City, passed away at 11:54 p.m. September 30, 2016 at Freeman Hospital.
Jack was born May 24, 1935 in Neosho to the late Earl Day and Julia McQuitty Day and had lived in the area most of his life.
He was raised in Racine and attended Frog Pond Elementary School there. Jack was a graduate of the former Joplin Junior College and attended Rolla School of Mines and Metallurgy. He worked at the Missouri State Highway Department and in the city works department for the City of Joplin as an engineer, retiring after 20 years of service.
Jack was an avid reader and could carry on a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping at the lake with family. Jack will be missed by all that knew him.
He married Linda Wilson on August 16, 1959 in Webb City. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a son, Randy Day and his wife, Kandee, Joplin; a daughter, Sherri Hostetter and her husband, Darin, Webb City; four grandchildren, Coty Hostetter and his wife, Sarah, Kelsee Robinson and her husband, Blake, Kendall Day, Konner Day; two great grandchildren, Olivia Grace Hostetter, Kynlee Kae Robinson; and two sisters, Sybil Cantwell, Miami, Oklahoma and Mary Sue Page, Joplin.
A memorial visitation is planned for Wednesday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
