James LeRoy Hughes, age 84, Neosho, passed away at 6:03 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2016 at Communities of Wildwood Ranch after an illness.
LeRoy was born July 21, 1932 in Lamar, Missouri to the late George William 'Bill' Hughes, Sr. and Icephenna Adline Kirkland Hughes and had lived in Neosho since the mid 1950's.
He worked at Rocketdyne in Neosho for several years, but was a skilled carpenter by trade and worked as an independent contractor for most of his life, building and remodeling homes.
LeRoy married Helen Marie Kaughman on August 6, 1950 in Carthage. She survives.
Additional survivors include children, Charlotte A. Rohrich and husband, Jake, Winter Haven, Florida, J. Rodney Hughes and wife, Leah, Joplin, Cynthia M. Thompson, Neosho; a brother, G.W. Hughes, Jr; a sister, Etta June Surratt and husband, Rev. Norman, Scottsdale, Arizona; ten grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, LeRoy was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Hughes and a brother, Charles Hughes.
A celebration of his life will be held in December.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
