Beverly Jones

Beverly Jones age 88 of Webb City, Missouri passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. She was born in Sabetha, Kansas to Claude Wyrick and Georgia (Corley) Wyrick on September 7, 1933.

Beverly graduated from Missouri Southern State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching and went on to get her Master's Degree from Pittsburg State University. 

She taught in the Webb City School R-7 School District until her retirement in 1993. Beverly taught physical education, and also coached volleyball, track, cheerleading, and redettes. She was a girl scout leader in her free time, loved to bowl, camp, and watch her beloved St. Louis Cardinals baseball. 

Beverly received the Pillars of Education Award from the foundation just this past March. Above all else she loved spending time with her family and will be missed by all that knew her. 

She married Charlie Jones on September 11, 1953 and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1998. 

Beverly was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Shewmake; and 3 brothers, Ed Wyrick, Bud Wyrick, and Jim Wyrick. 

She is survived by her son, Randy Jones and wife Toni of Joplin; a daughter, Diane Ray and husband Steven of Stark City; son in law, Buck Shewmake of Webb City; grandchildren, Cole Shewmake and wife Jennifer of Webb City, Stephanie Ray of Carthage, Katie Ray of Webb City, Corbin Jones of Plano, Texas, Emily Jones of Rogers, Arkansas, Stone Shewmake and wife Sydney of Batesville, Arkansas; and 4 great grandchildren, Selah, Noa, Creed, and Thaddeus. 

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the First Christian Church in Joplin with Pastor David Johnson officiating. Burial will be private for family.
