John Schnake

Lloyd "John" Schnake, Jr, age 89, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, in Pierce City, MO. He was born in Verona, MO on Tuesday, September 8, 1936; son of Lloyd John and Opal (Witthaus) Schnake. He was a 1955 graduate of Aurora High School. He served in the Army after graduation. 

John married Marjorie "Marjie" Garris on Tuesday, September 30, 1960, in Pierce City, MO. They enjoyed 65 years together. John retired from the Missouri Highway Department where he was a heavy machine operator. He helped at the Ag Service Center in Pierce City, MO. 






John enjoyed riding horses and motorcycles. He participated in rodeos for years. He watched many tractor pulls and car races. He was a Kansas City Chiefs fan. He was a Trail Boss for 42 years with the Ride for Life for St. Judes. He was a member of the Newton County Sheriff Posse, was on the board of Union Cemetery, was a member of the Saddle Club board in Pierce City where he served as president a few years. John was a farmer and enjoyed hunting with his grandson. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren. He never missed a ball game. He most enjoyed time with the grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids. He will be missed by many! 

Surviving are the following: his wife, Marjie of the home; three children, John W. Schnake of Wentworth, MO, Polly Ann (Chuck) Long of Cassville, MO, and Penny (Butch) Acheson of Pierce City, MO; four grandchildren, Kortney (Adam) Helsper, Dusty Clevenger, Alexx (Megan) Acheson, and Trystann (Parker) Atchley; four great-grandchildren, Haylie, Trista, Rodi, and Scout; four great-great grandchildren, Oaklee, Stetson, Braxton, and Mattix; two sisters, Dorothy Doennig and Erma Langley; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Opal Schnake; a son-in-law, Floyd Clevenger; and five siblings, Earl Schnake, Faye Swearengin, Jean Evans, Linda Fry, and Kaye Long. 








The family will receive friends at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

Services will be at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM with Pastor Kendall Arndt officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Berwick Cemetery in Pierce City, MO. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO.
