Amy Straw

(From Midland Cremation Society)

Amy Jane Sreaves-Straw was born on June 30th, 1952, to Gwendolyn (Wallace) and Ned Sreaves of Seneca, MO. She was the third of six children born to this union. She passed away on Friday, June 21st, at 10:40 pm in Joplin, MO.

Amy lived life to the fullest throughout her journey here on earth. She often joked that she was the "wild child" of her family, and all who knew her would agree. She had a way of making everything fun.

When Amy was around, there was always a fun adventure awaiting you. She enjoyed beautiful, whimsical art and could often be found using her talents to create art and jewelry pieces that reflected this. When we visited her down on her farm, she always had a new project to show and share with us.

Amy graduated in 1970 from Seneca High School. She went on to beauty school and did hair for a few years. She then took on the role of general manager for the local Pump N Pantry filling stations. Later, she took a position with La-Z-Boy and worked there for many years. She decided to return to her initial love of doing hair, so she joined JCPenney and a local salon, where she worked until her retirement earlier this year. She specialized in wash and sets for her elderly clientele and had a loyal following. She often spoke of her many different "ladies" and how much she loved them.

Amy was a very strong and independent woman. She found her perfect counterpart when she married Jim Straw. Together, they made a life full of countless home and art projects. She cared for her loved ones and took care of them throughout their lives. She and her sisters shared a very tight bond that kept them close throughout their lives. To her many nieces and nephews, she will be remembered as the cool and fun Aunt Amy who never let us have a boring time when she was around. We will all miss her immensely.

Amy is survived by her oldest sister, Nedolyn LeMasters; her two brothers, Alex (Geri) Sreaves and Wallace Sreaves; her best friend, Sue Henson; and her sisters-in-law, Uschi Sreaves and Phylis Straw.

She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Amanda (Kim) Hutchison of Tulsa, Amber (James) Thrash of Edmond, Allison Sreaves of Grove, Stefanie (Shane) Sreaves of Perkins, Nedale (Bob) Johnson of Joplin, Jason LeMasters of Carthage, Blake Sreaves of Springfield, Scott Simmons, and Geoffrey (Tiffany) Kunkler and their daughter Elyza, her aunts Arlene Wallace, CA, and Glenna Wallace, Seneca, and many cousins.

Her great-nieces and nephews include Talia Triplett, Whitney Triplett Baker, Gwyneth Johnson, Isaac Johnson, Kinzie, Morgan and Owen LeMasters, Hayden, Hunter, Heath Hutchison, Austin Sreaves, Lewis and Shane Jr Sutton, Jayden, Abriel, Tylie, Zyah, Berek, Kyelin, and Blaine Thrash.

Great great nieces and nephews, Elleana, Lydia, Piper, Xavier, Sélah and Olivia.

Also surviving is her beloved Pomeranian, Lola. The family would also like to thank her neighbor, Liz, who helped care for Amy over the past few years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gwendolyn and Ned Sreaves; her husband, Jim Straw; her sister, Nancy Sreaves; and her brother, Nathan Sreaves.

The family will have a celebration of life to be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to a local charity of your choice.
