Scott Kreiger

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Scott Dean Kreiger, 53, of Columbus, died at 9:33 AM Monday, February 6, 2023 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO. Scott died from complications related to long-term progressive liver illness. He remained in Mercy ICU and was later transferred to the hospice unit where his pain and suffering were controlled. Scott would want everyone to know he is in the presence of his LORD and all is good and well in his soul.

Born July 17, 1969 in Columbus, Scott was the son of Dean and Karen (Fink) Kreiger. He graduated from the Vanoss High School, Ada, OK with the Class of 1987.

Scott worked a variety of jobs: health care, Miami, OK; food business and sales in MO and AR; Manufacturing, Joplin, Neosho, MO; Scott's passion was farming where he operated large farming equipment and machinery for discing and planting seed crops of wheat, soybeans, and milo, on farmland, Weir, KS. Scott had hope of having a farm of his own. He would read his Bible and highlight the passages of scriptures that spoke spiritual truths, such as Jesus' parables in Matthew 13 about the Kingdom of Heaven, explained by "Sower and good seeds, and tares and harvesters."

Scott loved his dogs: miniature schnauzer Piper, and ShihTzu Chewbacca. He enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and was persistent to the finish. He mounted, framed and hung most on his bedroom walls. He enjoyed solitude, rugged camping, and sleeping under the open stars with a blazing campfire. Catfish 'noodling' amused him the most.

In his younger years, he was enthusiastic about his Yamaha dirt bike. He like racing and showmanship tricks. In the past year, Scott had interest in furniture refinishing and was working on a project in the garage up to the week before his final admission to Mercy Hospital.

Scott never married and has no children. Scott is survived by his mother Karen (Kreiger) Schutter, of Columbus; two brothers, Matthew Kreiger (companion Amy Soper) of Columbus, Timothy Kreiger-Clack (wife Sharon) of Joplin, MO; stepsister, Starlae Hodges of Crestline/Galena, KS; three nephews, Dylan Kreiger of Columbus, William Clack of Joplin, MO, and Timothy Clack of Woodland Hills, CA.; Two aunts, Connie Farley of Columbus and Loretta (Kreiger) Sills (husband Frank) of Coffeyville, KS. Scott has three great nephews and two great nieces, and many cousins. His special cousins are those he grew up with in childhood. He would say of these, "We loved, cried, played and laughed together...good memories."

Scott was preceded in death by his father Dean and stepmother Peggy Kreiger; grandparents: Blanche Fink and Norma Kreiger; great grandparents August and Nellie Kreiger; Aunt Nancy Long; and first cousin Mitchel VanDyne.
