Maxine Jones

(From Paul Thomas Funeral Home)

Nellie “Maxine” McCall Jones was born to John and Helen McCall on February 2, 1941, at home in Garnett, Oklahoma. She arrived three months premature and was placed in her dad’s shoebox on heated bricks that served as an incubator. From day one, she was a Godsend.

Maxine was the fourth of nine siblings. She grew up in Wyandotte, Oklahoma, during tough times—but as she often said, they didn’t realize it at the time. A hard-working woman, Maxine held only four jobs throughout her life, beginning at age 17: Delmar Laundry, Glen Berry’s, Eagle Picher, and finally La-Z-Boy, from which she retired.

In 1989, she married the love of her life, Glen Jones, and they shared 34 wonderful years together before his passing in 2023.

Maxine was born with a servant’s heart, always putting others first—especially her family and friends. She was a talented seamstress, she made the best cakes, pies, and desserts you ever tasted. She was known for keeping people fed, cared for, and feeling loved. Above all, she was the pillar of her family and a friend to many.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews:

• Amy Blair (Brandy) of Vinita, OK, and children ReAnnah Blair (Stormie) and Rase Blair

• Amanda Volentine and daughter Kamrynn Andrews of Grove, OK

• Beverly Aragon and daughter Shelley Karl of Washington, PA

• Dianna Bamman (Bill) of Liberty, MO

• John McCall (Gulgenq) of Kansas City, MO

• Tom McCall of Kansas City, MO

• Danny McCall of Wyandotte, OK

• Jim McCall (Missy) of Goodman, MO

• Ross Heistand of Seneca, MO

• Jack Lasley of Wyandotte, OK

• Doug Lasley of Seneca, MO

She is also survived by several great and great-great nieces and nephews, stepchildren Sharon Ryser (Preston) of Quapaw, OK, and Ron Jones (Penny) of Baxter Springs, KS, as well as step-grandchildren Sara Taylor, Jennifer Schibi, and Christina Herrera. A very special friend, Ralph Harrington of Seneca, MO, also survives her.

Maxine was preceded in death by her two infant sons, Johnnie Lee and Teddy; her parents; her siblings Jean Ann Miller, Patty Lasley, Della Heistand, Punkin Jester, Billie Blair, Johnnie McCall, and Jim McCall; and several nieces and nephews—all of whom she loved deeply.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Grace Church in Miami, Oklahoma. Rev. Phil Shyers will officiate. Interment will be in Wyandotte Cemetery in Wyandotte, Oklahoma. Jim McCall, Rase Blair, Reanna Blair, Jack Lasley, Danny McCall and Billy McCall will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Thursday before the service at Grace Church in Miami, Oklahoma.
