Allene Hunt, age 90, of Joplin, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at National Health Care of Joplin.
Allene was born July 21, 1927 in Carthage, Missouri, daughter of the late Oral Conway and Mindie Smith Conway. She graduated from Alba High School and then attended Joplin Junior College where she ended up teaching for several years. During her time there she met her lifelong "Sweetheart", Bill Hunt. The two got married on April 29, 1949 in Joplin, and enjoyed over 65 years together before he preceded her in death on November 10, 2013.
Allene worked for 42 years as a bookkeeper for Phillips 66 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. After her retirement, the couple moved back to Joplin in 1994. She was an active member of Blendville Christian Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school classes, and served on several committees.
In addition to her parents, and sweetheart Bill, Allene was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Conway, Connie Conway, and Eula Mae Conway, and a niece, Atalaya Garrison.
She is survived by a brother, Bill Conway and wife Naomi of Joplin; sister, Erma Garrison of Diamond, Missouri; sister-in-laws, Josephine Campbell of Joplin, Beverly Hunt of Joplin; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Blendville Christian Church with Pastor Virgil Eubanks officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery with family servicing as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Allene's church.
