Galan Hackney

Galan Edward Hackney, of Lockwood, MO, passed away December 9,2024 at St. Luke's Nursing Home Carthage, MO at the age of 75.

He was born June 20, 1949 in Greenfield, MO to Charles and Lucille (Lautenschlaeger) Hackney. Galan received his education in Lockwood where he graduated from high school in 1967. 

On July 24, 1970 he was united in marriage to Karen Cassity. Galan graduated from MSU (formerly SMSU) in 1972. He helped build and run the Red Barn Restaurant in Greenfield, MO along with his father, brother, and investors. 






Galan also worked at his father's Red Barn Restaurant in Fort Scott, Kansas. After the restaurant in Greenfield sold, he moved to Springfield, MO and stayed working in the restaurant business. He managed Steer & Stein and PJ Brennan Restaurant until moving to Kansas City and working as area manager for Dairy Queen. In 1993, Galan and Karen moved back to Lockwood to the Lautenschlaeger family farm and began raising turkeys for Butterball Company. He also raised cattle several years.

He loved to go pheasant hunting with his buddies in Kansas and South Dakota. Galan was always ready to go fishing on Stockton, Truman, and Table Rock Lakes. Lake Taneycomo was his favorite. Galan was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood, MO where he served on several boards and committees. He was a member of the church choir for 29 years.








Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother in infancy. Survivors include his wife, Karen Hackney of the home; one daughter, Kelley Hackney of Clever, MO; one brother, Jim Hackney (Leigh Ann) of Carl Junction, MO; one granddaughter, Sonja Isabelle; two nephews, Walker Hackney (Jennifer) of Bradenton, FL and Jordan Hackney (Stephine) of Peach Tree, GA; one brother-in-law, Sherrell Cassity (Glenda) of Exeter, MO; Karen's sister-in-law, Darlene Cassity of Springfield, MO; Karen's niece, Alison Cassity DeMull (Shawn) of San Antonio,TX; and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday at 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Alzheimer's Association. Services are under the care of Lockwood Funeral Chapel.
