(From Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home)Walter Dean Gassaway, age 68, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born April 30, 1956, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of the late Lonnie Walter and Annie Laura (Walker) Gassaway.
Walter was a 1974 graduate of Lee’s Summit High School, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He worked for the US Forest Service and the automotive dealerships in Aurora. As a lifelong craftsman he liked doing projects at home and for others. He enjoyed boating, the outdoors, and more than anything, spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren) and friends.
Walter is survived by his two sons, Adam Gassaway and his wife, Tammie, of Wildwood, Missouri and Matt Gassaway and his wife, Ashley, of Neosho, Missouri; four grandchildren, Carmen, Troy, Magnus and Briley Gassaway; one sister, Wanda Johnston of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and two nephews, Ryan Johnston of San Diego, California and Randy Johnston of South Lake Tahoe, California.
A memorial service under the direction of Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, in Aurora, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Aurora Baptist Temple.
