(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Rev. Aaron Martin Wilson, age 98, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Monday, December 23 at the Communities of Wildwood Ranch in Joplin.
Aaron was born September 30, 1926, in Corsicana, Texas to John and Myrtle (Husley) Wilson. He was raised alongside his two siblings.
He married Marthel Wilson and together had two children, a son and a daughter. Marthel later passed away in 2001. In 2002 he married Ola May Mahan and gained two additional sons. Ola May passed away in 2012.
Aaron was an intelligent, passionate, and successful man. He was a faithful minster for decades with the Pentecostal Church of God and a gifted musician who served as a student director of the Houston Youth Symphony. He graduated from what is now Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas and from Pittsburg State University, then obtained his doctorate degree in Clovis, CA. He served as the chair of the Music Department at Southern Bible College in Houston, Texas. He also spent five years as a college professor at Evangel Christian College, then taught at Messenger College for many years. He served as Christian Education Director for the Pentecostal Church of God, as editor of the denomination’s magazine, The Pentecostal Messenger, and as a denominational historian. A prolific writer, through the years he authored many books.
After retiring, he served at Joplin Family Worship Center where he played the organ until very recently. He served until this year as an integral member of the Fuller Center for Housing Board of Joplin and performed audits for that organization.
He was the first recipient of the Pentecostal Church of God Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. He will be very much missed by the students, pastors, ministers and leaders whom he instructed and inspired.
Preceding him in death are his wives Marthel and Ola May, his parents John and Myrtle, his brother James Wilson, and his sister Helen Wilson Patterson.
He is survived by his son, John B. Wilson of Illinois, his daughter Diane Dallis of New Mexico, his stepsons John Bunch of Goodman and Gary Alexander of Joplin.
A funeral service has been scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday, December 30 at Mason-Woodard Chapel, officiated by Reverend Daniel H. Wermuth. The family will receive friends and visitors at 10:00 am prior to the service. There will be a graveside committal service following afterwards.
