Zella Johnson

Zella O. Johnson, of Independence, Mo., age 94, passed away on Monday June 16, 2014, in Independence, Mo., following an illness. 

Zella was born on September 16, 1919 in Pond Creek, Ok., the daughter of the late Fred A. and Mary Murriel (Klein) Williams. She was a member of the Calicoat Quilt Club. She attended the East Independence Church of Christ. She married Carl M. Johnson on September 3, 1938. He preceded her in death August of 1991. 

She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Johnson in May of 1979 and two brothers, Roy Williams and Gerald Williams. She is survived by two daughters, Janice Dickey and husband Jack, Independence, Mo., and Wanda Heibein and husband Harry, Longmont, Co.; three brothers, Gene Williams, Sacramento, Ca., H. Lee Williams, Webb City, Mo., and Jimmy Williams, Joplin, Mo.; two sisters, Lorraine Halteman, Carterville, Mo. and Juanita Williams, Joplin; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin, Mo. H. Lee Williams and Kent Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Jeff Dickey, Jody Dickey, Wayne Heibein, Greg York, and Caleb Smythe. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Monday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Groves Community Hospice in care of the mortuary.

 Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
