Poncie Sheffield

Florence “Poncie” Carlene Sheffield age 86 of Carl Junction, Missouri passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage. 

 She was born on June 8, 1931 in Van Buren, Arkansas to James Carl Slavens and Vera Estelle (Waylan) Slavens. Poncie worked for the Tulsa Public Schools for over 20 years before her retirement. She grew up in Oakhurst, Oklahoma then moved to Tulsa where she lived for 36 years then she moved to Carl Junction in 1994. Poncie loved to read, make crafts, play bunco, and root for her grandchildren at their sporting events. 

 She married Herbert Sheffield on June 12, 1948 and he survives her at home. Poncie is also survived by her daughters, Jennifer Randall and husband Rodney of Tulsa, Carla Larkin and husband Barry of Runaway Bay, Texas; a son, Max Sheffield and wife Debbie of Carl Junction; sister, Maye Miller of Tulsa; brother, Bud Slavens and wife Sherron of Dumont, Colorado; and a sister-in-law, Betty Peterson of Tulsa; along with 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. 

 A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Carl Junction Cemetery with Reverend Mitchell Randall officiating. The family will be present for visitation on Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at Simpson Funeral Home in Carl Junction. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Luke’s Nursing Center in her memory.
