Bob Dampier

(From Parker Mortuary)

Robert (Bob) Layne Dampier, 67, passed away Monday, February 1, 2022.

Robert was born December 10, 1954 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Denny and Billie Anne Delmore Dampier, who both preceded him in death.

After his childhood in Independence, Missouri his family moved to Joplin where Robert graduated from Parkwood High School, then earned a degree in Mathematics from Missouri Southern.

After graduation, he began a long, successful career, initially with Southwestern Bell, then AT&T, in supervisory positions that took him to St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, New Jersey and New York, New York. Robert took the opportunity for early retirement and moved back to Missouri where he continued to work in communications until his final retirement several years ago.

Robert enjoyed his many annual snow and water skiing trips with friends. He loved playing his guitar and was extremely proud of his musical heritage. As the grandson of Alton Delmore of the acclaimed Delmore Brothers, he loved promoting their music. He was known to give their CD's to radio stations, restaurants, and other businesses in addition to friends and family.

A unfailing proponent of inclusivity, Robert actively supported many humanitarian causes. Family was very important to him and he helped care for his parents until they passed. Robert fiercely loved his nieces and nephews and they were a source of great joy to him.

Most of all, Robert will be remembered for his fantastic sense of humor. He enjoyed being the class clown, always making people laugh. He was quick with a joke, able to find humor in even difficult situations to lighten the mood, or coax a smile. Robert was fun, and loved pulling pranks, but always in a good-natured way.

Robert is survived by his sister Rebecca (Rusty) Adams and her husband Steve, brother Reggie and husband Joel Link; nephews Ryan Sweet and wife Teri, Ross and wife Kelly; nieces Morgan Sweet and husband Matt, and Carly Pierson and husband Scott as well as many great nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
