John Barker

(From Clark Funeral Home)

On December 2, 1930, Cecil Milliner “Pete” Barker and Zelma Mae (Patton) Barker gave birth to John Thomas at their home near Fairview, Missouri. They have gone on before him along with his sisters Irene Waggoner, Lois Barker, Delma Thomas, and Beverly Turner, as well as his brothers Charles and Lloyd. February 6, 2022, John "Tommy" crossed Jordan to be with the Lord.

John grew up in Newton County during the Depression Era, going to small country schools and working on his family’s farm. He worked in the Kansas wheat harvest and the Washington fruit harvest. He joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1949 to 1953, with foreign service in the Philippines, after which time he settled in Wichita, KS working at Boeing Aircraft as a B52 airplane mechanic from 1954-1968.

In 1956 he came to know the Lord. He married Coeta Chambers on November 3, 1956, in Neosho, Missouri, and they began their family of three little girls: Donna Jean, Jo Ann, and Mary Lou. After eight months in Seattle with Boeing and moving to their farm in Newton County in 1968 to build a home, he worked at Buddy L and Sunbeam from 1968-1992 and attended Granby First Baptist Church. He spent his retirement years working on their farm, enjoying many bluegrass weekends, and being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Their oldest daughter is Donna and husband Robert Drummonds; their children are Caitlin, husband Sam Beatty; Ginger, husband Jacob Berger, sons Judah and Cale and another son on the way; and Bryson and wife, Brittany. Jo Ann, their second daughter is married to Rob Zemotel; their children are Heather and Rob III. Their youngest daughter Mary Lou is married to Jeff Fisher; their children are Nathanael, married to Laura, and son, Nathanael II; Benjamin, married to Nikki, and sons Tommy, Ezekiel, and Silas, and another baby on the way; Rebekah; and Abraham and his fiancée Evelyn.
