(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Mary Katherine Oglesby, age 92, died on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Joplin Gardens, a caring and loving community in Joplin, Missouri.
She was born in McClean, Texas to Roy and Katherine (Henderson) Stokes and was the third child of four children. She is preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, one sister, Margrete Howell and two brothers, Marvin and Marvel Stokes.
Mary started playing the piano at a young age and enjoyed it throughout her life. She loved to play for friends and family sometimes enlisting her children to sing with her. After graduating from high school, she went on to college where she met the love of her life the late James E. Oglesby. They were married and enjoyed 71 years together. They moved several times and enjoyed the blessings of a Christian life. Mary will always be remembered as a bright, shining light in the various communities and churches she served.
She leaves behind her loving children; Steve and Donna Strup, Dale and Judy Oglesby and Ken and Carol Oglesby, 9 grandchildren, 24 great children and 2 great-great grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial service held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:00 am at Royal Heights United Methodist Church, 1612 Euclid Ave. Joplin, Missouri. The Reverend officiating will be Steve Thomas.
