Joe Thomason

(From Parker Mortuary)

John-Michael “Joey” Joseph Thomason, age 44, of Seneca, passed away on June 16, 2022 peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends.

Joe, son of John E. and Norma (McMasters) Thomason, was born on August 29, 1977 in El Dorado Springs, MO. He grew up with a strong sense of tradition and an understanding of hard work and during high school at the age of 15, Joe started working as a tire mechanic.

Soon after high school he went to work full time and was currently employed with Certified Express Trucking in Neosho.

On June 16, 2001 he was united in marriage to Mary Coleman. Together they enjoyed 21 years of marriage.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman. His love for the outdoors started from childhood, when his parents took him fishing and hunting, instilling in him the knowledge that he would pass on to his family. He loved spending time with his family in the outdoors. His passion for the outdoors led him to become an invaluable teacher to the young kids in family, teaching them all how to fish.

Joe had a giant heart. His presence was immense and sometimes intimidating, but behind the big burly man he was a soft and caring teddy bear. He was the greatest protector, the man who would make everyone feel safe. He would do anything for anyone he cared about. Joe’s love for his family was evident in everything he did.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Thomason, of Seneca; his parents, John and Norma Thomason, of Larmar; children, Tyler Lugenbell, and his fiancé, Bailey Curry, of Walnut Grove, Brennan Thomason and Zana Thomason, both of the home; grandchildren, Jaxon and Lilly; two brothers, Jeremy Thomason, and his wife, Lauren, of Lamar, and James Thomason, of Carl Junction; his sister, Brittney Landes, and her husband, Justin, of Lamar; grandmother, Gloria Scott, of Jasper; his mother-in-law, Shirley Coleman, of Joplin; aunts and uncles, Elizabeth McMasters, of Lamar, Carl McMasters, of Fort Scott, Ricky Leivan, of Jasper, Darrell Thomason, of Jasper, Teresa Splain, of Maryland, and Tim Thomason, of Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
