Fern Goodenough

Fern (Fernie) Goodenough, 85, passed away April 1, 2023 at Solace House of the Ozarks with her family by her side.

She was born July 6, 1937, in Dade County, Mo. to Harry and Marjorie Hurrell.

She grew up in the Golden City, Mo. area and attended school there.

1956, she married Robert McCray at Lamar, Mo. To this union three children were born, they later divorced.








1970, she married George Goodenough in Isabel, Ks. They moved to Idaho and she stayed there until his passing in 1985. She then moved back to Missouri.

She was an awesome Cook, the neighbors loved her cooking. She gave away most of the dishes she cooked. She did lots of sewing and crocheting for her family and friends. Fishing was her favorite outdoor Hobby, and she liked playing Penny Slots and her main Singer was George Strait.

She was a member of Carterville United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Billy McCray, one daughter Debra Kossman, one granddaughter Sarah Ricke, three brothers & four sisters.

She leaves behind one son Lynn McCray (Lavonne) of Medicine Lodge, Ks.; four grandchildren, Josh, Justin, Robin, Tina; six great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild with an additional great-great-grandchild on the way. Two sisters, Mary Ann Simmons (Gary) of Alba, Mo., Patty Baker (Wayne) of Carl Junction, Mo., one brother-in-law, Norman Rush of Carthage, Mo.; lots of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.








In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Solace House of the Ozarks or Carterville United Methodist Church in her name.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday April 16, 2023 at the Carterville United Methodist Church. Final Resting place will be Isabel Cemetery, Isabel, Kansas.


Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory Joplin, Missouri.
