(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)James D “Jim” Whitfield, 72, of Oronogo, Missouri, passed away at 10:51 am on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri after a lengthy illness.
Jim was born on February 7, 1952, in Springfield, Missouri. Jim resided in several places including; Bolivar, Missouri- El Dorado Springs, Missouri- Columbia, Missouri- Tallahassee, Florida- Macon, Missouri- Jefferson City, Missouri- and Oronogo, Missouri.
He was an avid baseball player from the time he was little through college where he was a very good pitcher. He graduated from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. He loved his Lord and Savior and his family. He was always trying to help family members by making their lives better somehow.
He was a Missouri State Highway Patrolman serving in the following ranks: Trooper, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant and finally as Captain. He also served as undercover for the Highway Patrol. He was an instructor at the recruit academy in Jefferson City for several years. He was of the Baptist faith.
A survivor; his sister, Julie Whitfield of Oronogo, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Whitfield and Peggy Masters Whitfield.
There will be a Graveside Service at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Stockton City Cemetery in Stockton, Missouri. Mr. Bruce Reed, Pastor and Mr. Johnnie Hoggatt will officiate. A visitation will follow immediately after the service. Please observe social distancing at the Graveside Service.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Cancer Research or Brain Stem Injuries in care of the mortuary.
