(From Parker Mortuary)Nancy Jeanne Jennings, age 78 of Joplin, Missouri, passed peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2024 at Carthage Health and Rehab. Nancy was born September 4, 1946 in Glendale, California to the late Albert and Bernice Stokes Sulzner.
Nancy graduated college and began a career of teaching art for the Diamond School District. She later became a Case Worker with the Division of Family Services where she retired after a long and enjoyable career.
Nancy was very active in the community, including involvement with the Heartland Opera and the Spiva Art Center. She was not just a talented artist, Nancy was a talented vocalist as well. She used her gifts with her church, St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church of Joplin and was a part of the St. Anne’s Altar Guild.
Nancy is survived by her extended family and a special long-time friend, Ramona Shields and her husband, Hugh.
Other than her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by a sister, Chris Senter.
Burial of ashes will take place at a later date at St. Phillip’s Church of Joplin.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
Mrs Jennings was my art teacher in Diamond. She had a way of bringing out the best in students. I didn't have a natural art talent ,but Mrs Jennings encouraged me to find and express my version of art. She will be missed.
