(From Parker Mortuary)William “Bill” Venard Martin, age 70, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Freeman Hospital of Joplin.
Bill was born on June 18, 1951 in Peru, IN to the union of Lowell and Dixie (McKamey) Martin. He grew up in Peru, Indiana and was a 1969 graduate of Joplin Memorial.
After graduating High School, he joined the United States Navy in 1972.
Bill was committed to the love of his life, Carol Dvorak, until her passing on 12/23/20. He endearingly always referred to her as “Lovey”. He was nicknamed “Bear” to all of his close family and friends. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including: golfing, fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed bowling and cooking/grilling. Bill most of all though, loved opening and relaxing in his swimming pool. He was a lifetime member of the Joplin Elks Lodge and Hornet Christian Church.
Bill is preceded in death by his father, Lowell Martin; wife, Carol Dvorak.
Bill is lovingly survived by his mom, Dixie Martin; three children, Jennifer Jameson (John), of Loma Linda, Jeanette Hunter, of Joplin, Jeremiah Hunter (Ruthanna), of Columbia; two sisters, Lesa Wade (Tom), of Galena, Resa Ventrulla (Gordon), of Bentonville; two brothers, Jim Martin, of Carl Junction, John Martin (Wendy), of Branson; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge in Joplin, MO.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
