(From Simpson Funeral Home)Kenneth R. Austin, age 81 of Carl Junction, passed away on January 30, 2022 surrounded by the comfort of his wife and family. Kenneth was born on August 4, 1940 to Buel and Ethel Austin in Baxter Springs, KS.
He was a proud veteran, having served his country as a fire technician in the United States Navy.
Kenny worked as an electrician and relay tester with Empire District Electric Company for 40 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the IBEW Electrical Union and Webb City Elks Lodge, having served as past-Treasurer of both.
Kenny was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was ever present for his family. He gave and received hugs and kisses freely and often. Those who knew him well described him as patient, kind, loving and sweet. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs but mostly his grandchildren in all their sports and activities. He was often recognized getting his daily walk in all over town.
Kenny is survived by his wife Janet Austin of Carl Junction; three loving daughters Rachel Wilson of Carl Junction, Michele and husband Fred Francis of Arma, KS, and Carey and husband Chad Hawkins of Neosho; grandchildren Zack, Austin, Lane, Hannah, Maggie, Cole, Kendall, Kenton and Jacobson. He is also survived by a son, Darrin. He is preceded in death by his parents Buel and Ethel Austin.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 5th at the Simpson Funeral Home of Carl Junction with Joey Morris officiating. The family will receive friends from 10am until service time. Graveside services will follow at the Carl Junction Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for their encouraging support, helping them care for their husband and father at home.
