Margia Kelly

Margia J. Graves Marlatt Kelly, age 97 of Joplin, MO, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in her home. Margia was born June 2, 1926, in Joplin, MO, to the union of the late Fred and Bertie (McCullough) Graves. Margia was a graduate of Joplin High School in 1944.

On January 4, 1948, she married James C. Marlatt and from this union 5 daughters were born; Nancy, Anita, Marsha, Sharon, and Julia. They resided in Sarcoxie, MO. from 1959-1976. 








In 1976 Margia moved back to Joplin, MO. She was a lifetime member of the Community of Christ Church and served there in several capacities. Margia worked as a secretary for several Joplin businesses. She also enjoyed working in a dress shop for several years. Margia enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and antiquing furniture. She always said she loved making old things look new again.

In 1983, Margia married Basil V. Kelly. He passed away in August 1990. In 1991, Margia, her twin sister, Margaret, and several other 1944 classmates, organized “Club 44.” The club provided a way for classmates to stay in touch and do fun activities together. It continued until 2015.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her baby daughter, Nancy; 6 brothers, Edwin, Harold, James, Lewis, Galen and an infant brother; 4 sisters, Eva Belle Puckett, Helen Outt, Ozella Bard and Mary Francis Irick.








Surviving are 4 daughters, Anita L. Bloss (Richard) of Sarcoxie, MO, Marsha L. Morton (Rex) of Jasper, MO, Sharon L. Peterson of Joplin, MO and Julia L. (Jim) Whitford of Oronogo, MO; Margia’s twin sister, Margaret J. Wilson of Georgia; four granddaughters, Jennifer, Amy, Kristin, and Kate. One grandson, Christopher, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Parker Mortuary Chapel in Joplin, Mo. A private family burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Community of Christ Children’s Ministry “Jesus Kids.”

Funeral arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
