Mary Abild

Mary Abild went home to Jesus on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at the age of 87.

Mary Katherine Grimsley was born to Reverend Fred and Velma (White) Grimsley on Dec. 4, 1935, in Neosho, Mo. Mary was born and raised in Neosho and became a licensed beautician after graduating high school.

Mary Grimsley and Ralph Hatchett, Jr. were married on Dec. 18, 1955. Ralph and Mary had two daughters. Ralph lost his three year battle with bone cancer in 1966. Mary obtained an A.A. degree in Early Childhood Education from Crowder College and continued to raise her daughters in Neosho until 1970, when they moved to Kansas City, Mo.

Mary Hatchett of Kansas City, Mo., and Robert J Abild of Atlantic, were married July 8, 1976. They resided in Atlantic where they raised seven of their combined 10 children. Mary held various volunteer roles at the Atlantic Assembly of God Church (now known as Hillside Hope Assembly). Mary and Bob were active in Gideons and the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) for many years. Mary enjoyed assisting in bingo and serving tea and cookies at Heritage House. She was active in the care of her parents, a daughter and a cousin for several years prior to their deaths. Mary worked many different part-time jobs over the years to help support the family. Her main job was being a wife and raising seven children.

In May, 2019, Mary moved to Arcadia, to live with her daughter, due to health complications. In August, 2021, Mary moved to Journey Senior Services, Carroll, because of a need for full time care due to dementia. Mary enjoyed a variety of activities and the wonderful care she received from Journey staff. She enjoyed attending church in Carroll when the weather wasn't too cold. Her most enjoyable time was when family and friends would visit her.

Throughout her entire life, Mary held an unwavering faith in God. She enjoyed traveling with Bob, sewing and was an avid reader.

Surviving Mary are her children: Barbara (Dan) Gold, John (Diane) Abild, Ronda (Tim) Wilkinson, Janet Christensen, Cindy (Robert) Ulveling, Robin (Ervin) Suko, Greg (Kathy) Abild and Rusty Winship; grandchildren: Michael Bringmann, Sheena Parks, Brendon Gold, Christopher Gold, Jennifer (Eric) Moberg, Blake (Ariana Hart) Wilkinson, Shania Wilkinson, Beau Wilkinson, Sean Wilkinson, Alexandra Garrett, Megan Abild, Conner Christensen, Erik Abild, Zach (Mirela) Abild, Kersten Abild, Jeremy (Chelle) Schlake, Justin (Mindy) Schlake, Jacob (Amber) Schlake, Shannon (Chris) Siedlik, Brandi (Brian) Maine, Mikala (Brandon) Smith, Vanessa (Randy) Hoover, Austin Arndt, Aubrey (Fred) Schuler, Tyler Mills, Cody (Mayra) Mills and Austin Mills; 55 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren; nieces, Leslie (Mark) Cross, Karen (Andy) Fowler; nephews Steve (Lorri) Grimsley and Bob Grimsley; and good friend, Helen Gregersen.
