Shirley Mailes

(From Parker Mortuary)

Shirley Nadine Mailes, age 86, of Joplin, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born on September 28, 1937, to the late Robert and Pansy (Tyndall) Huffman in Joplin. She grew up in Joplin and graduated from Joplin High School.

She was united in marriage to George Bailey on September 24, 1956, in Las Vegas.

Despite parting ways, they continued to share a close bond until George's passing in 2002. Later she married James Mailes, on September 12, 1984. He preceded her in death in 2013.

Shirley was a dedicated homemaker, who put family first above all else. She was a devoted and proud grandmother, whose grandchildren were her pride and joy. It was not uncommon to see Shirley giving someone a hard time, as she was silly and loved to joke around. Throughout her life, Shirley enjoyed traveling and was always on the go. Cooking was another of Shirley's passions. She took great pleasure in feeding those she loved, ensuring everyone was well-fed and never left hungry. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and joy, filled with love and laughter. Her home was a haven of love, where everyone was always welcome and where she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her two daughters, Kathy Leaming, of Joplin, and Brenda Bostick, also of Joplin; grandchildren, Lindsey Hoke, and her husband, Travis, of Joplin, Matt Robertson, and his wife, Lauren, of Joplin, Torrey Nigro, of Joplin, and Heather Miller, and her husband, Chris, of Alba; one brother, Frank Huffman, of Joplin; four adored great grandchildren, Jane, Wilson, Brynn and Nate; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, George, and James, Shirley was preceded in death by one daughter, Sabrina Nigro.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin with burial to follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery, Joplin. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Monday, November 27th beginning at 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin.
